Beware: Traffic Jam and Jerusalem ahead

Hello Ladies,

Well, you certainly amazed me when over 50 of you turned out last Thursday evening in sub-zero temperatures to attend our monthly meeting. What a hardy bunch you are! Your continued support at monthly meetings is what makes all the effort put in BY the Committee worthwhile, so THANK YOU! I’m sorry that some of our more poorly ladies were unable to attend, and I wish you all a speedy recovery.

THANK YOU ALSO ……

To Caroline for organising Cereal Killers last week.

To Vikki Steege for her very informative talk on the Highway Code with interesting questions and answers throughout.

To Penny’s Hub members for the amazing range of cakes produced for our meeting.

To Carol for hosting ‘Between the Covers’ this month

HAPPY BIRTHDAY

The following ladies all have their birthdays at the end of January and February,

Penny, 24th January; Angela, 26th January; Lee, 8th February; Lindsay, 9th February; Julie, 16th February; Karen, 19th February. I hope that you all have a very special day.

RESOLUTIONS VOTING OUTCOMES

Thank you to all of you who cast your votes for this year’s Resolutions.

The results were as follows:

1.     Dental Health Matters - 20 votes

2.     Impacts of Poor Housing Condition - 21 votes

3.     Say ‘No’ to Gambling Advertising - 4 votes

4.   Improving Outcomes for Women in the Criminal Justice System -  5 votes

I have submitted our results to WSFWI and our votes will be added to all the other WSWIs’ results. The winning category will be submitted to the NFWI for debate at the National Conference in June.

NEW INITIATIVE FOR FUTURE MEETINGS

We will be introducing a monthly Table Competition, using a variety of topics for inspiration. The first topic, which coincides with the annual WI “Showing Love for The Climate” initiative, will be to produce a Green Heart using any medium of your choice. You have a few weeks to produce this and we would ask that you bring your green hearts along to the February meeting. Of course, entry into the competition is completely voluntary but it’s an ideal way to get your creative juices going – and there will be a prize for the best entry.

PRELOVED AND PRETTY EVENT

Despite Amanda and Kate beavering away in the background on our behalf, arranging the ARWI Preloved and Pretty event for Saturday March 9th, at Pagham Village Hall, there has sadly been so little interest shown that we have decided to cancel the event. Anyone who did buy a table will have the choice of either receiving a full refund or having a table at the Preloved & Pretty event in Chichester on 20th April.

I’d like to thank Amanda and Kate for all their hard work in trying to get this event off the ground for us and wish you much success at your February event in Worthing and the April event in Chichester. I’m sure that they will advertise these events on our Facebook page so that you can attend if you wish to do so.

Since this was going to be our main fundraising event this year, I would now ask that we continue to donate a voluntary £1 contribution at the beginning of every meeting and contribute to the monthly sale table and raffle. Every little helps!

LOCHS & GLENS HOLIDAYS

Last December, Caroline and Wendy went on a Lochs & Glens 5 day Coach holiday to Scotland. They enjoyed it so much that they are going again on Monday 9th December, 2024. If anyone fancies joining them, please take a look at this link https://www.lochsandglens.com/holiday-search/65341

I must say that for £354pp, including Excursions, Half Board, Nightly Entertainment and Luxury Coach Travel, it looks like marvellous value for money! You can contact Caroline for more information but you are responsible for booking your own place.
