Blooms, Bingo and Bras...

Hello Ladies,

Happy Mother’s Day to all you Mums, Grandmothers and Great Grandmothers. I hope you’re having a wonderful day being spoilt rotten!

I promise not to mention potholes, perpetual rain or road diversions in this update because I’m trying to keep positive.

It’s been lovely to see the beautiful magnolias blossoming and clumps of daffodils blooming along the roadsides - a cheery sight to brighten a dull day. I love this time of year when all the buds are beginning to come out. Sarah S. won a bunch of tulips in the table-top competition last month and reported that they were still going strong after two weeks! (I bought them from the Co-Op at if anyone’s interested).

THANK YOU

  • To the Committee for enduring a long meeting last Thursday evening and to Gina who attended as a guest this month. (Please let your Hub Leader know if you’d like to attend a meeting as a guest).

  • To Penny for hosting the Committee meeting.

  • To Caroline L for organising Cereal Killers yesterday.

  • To Barbara for organising the walk on Tuesday, 12th March. Fingers crossed for good weather.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY

To Sarah S. (4th March), Jenny B. (7th March). Belated birthday wishes to you both.

Caroline L. (10th March), Mo R. (12th March), Sarah H. (16th March), Kim P. (22nd March), Me (23rd March), Janet B. (24th March).  Wishing you all a very special day.

GENERAL INFORMATION

A gentle reminder that April will be the start of a new financial year and your annual subscription of just £45.00 (of which we keep about half after contributions to our Federation and to NFWI) will again help to boost our coffers. The subscription this year should be £48 but the Committee has decided to subsidize our members to the tune of £3.00 to help ease the cost of living. Please pay your subscriptions by 1st April via BACs, cheque or cash to Jackie at the meeting on 21st March.

ANNUAL MEETING, Thursday, 21st March.

Our meeting this month is our Annual Meeting. Once again, Officers will be delivering their annual reports and you are welcome to ask any questions after each address. There will be no change of Committee members at this Annual Meeting but changes will happen gradually from the November meeting onwards.

A light buffet will be provided by the Committee and we will have our usual Sale Table (we need more sale items please, so do have a little clear out), Raffle and Table Top Competition. The theme this month is “An Old Family Photograph”.

Following the formal part of the evening, our lovely Lindsay will be dusting off her ‘Calling’ skills for ‘eyes down, look in’ for a few games of Bingo, with prizes of great magnitude!

Upcoming Events

Please save the date for the following upcoming events this summer:

Saturday, 25th May at 1800, a Fundraising Cocktail Soiree. All welcome, members and non-members. Tickets £10 in advance.

Organised Beach Litter Picks will take place at short notice, depending on the weather and the tide but we’d like to make this a regular event for our members.

Further details will be given nearer the time of each event.

Please bring your old bras along to the next meeting as we will be supporting V2Radio.

FUNNIES

FINALLY

I’ve been made aware recently that some of our ladies may feel a little isolated at meetings. I’m really sorry to hear this. It can be very daunting for some newer ladies to enter a hall full of people they don’t know, who appear to have already formed into friendship groups. We pride ourselves on being a fully inclusive WI and so, at the next meeting, we shall be setting aside 10 minutes for everyone to mingle. We challenge you to talk to two other ladies whom you’ve never spoken to before and find out at least two things about them. It is only by chatting that we can feel more at ease with each other. Of course, joining a sub-group or the Committee is really the best way to get to know each other.

Have a good week everyone.

Aileen x

Payments for all ARWI events from now on will go through Jackie and the ARWI bank account 'Aldwick Revival WI', Sort Code: 60-03-08, Acc. No. 74259172.
