Degrees, Delicious and Delightful Doggies

Hello Ladies,

I don’t often blow my own trumpet but last month I was proud to be awarded an Honorary Degree by the University of London for ‘Services to Education’. I went to the London Institute of Education to receive my degree. The oldest of the alumni to receive this award was the ripe old age of 101! There were 26 of us from my year group at Nonington College of Physical Education, some of whom I’d not seen in 45 years. Despite the oppressive heat and lack of air conditioning, we all had the most fabulous time and a very memorable evening to boot. (We were kicked out of the hotel bar at midnight - for making too much noise 😊).

THANK YOU

· To Lindsay for organising a fabulous Afternoon Tea at Delicious.

· To the wonderful Committee for another productive meeting last Thursday.

· To Jackie and the ‘Knit n Natter’ group for handling a very poorly Marie at the meeting.

· We received a thank you letter from Life-Centre,

Aldwick Revival WI

07/07/2023

Dear Aileen,

We wouldn’t be able to help survivors on their journey of transformation without the kindness and support of people like you at Aldwick Revival WI.

Thank you so much for the incredible generosity you have shown through your donation of £50. Please pass on our thanks to all at the Aldwick Revival WI. Your support makes such a difference to the work we do and provides life-changing benefits for the survivors and supporters we counsel. We are so grateful that you have chosen to support Lifecentre in this way. Your support is invaluable!

While we are deeply saddened that the demand for our service is ever-growing, we are encouraged to know that survivors are still reaching out for the help they. Each counselling session is a step towards a new lease on life. Where previously, even the smallest of tasks would seem impossible, survivors feel able to tackle everyday life, overcoming the effects of their abuse, such as anxiety, eating disorders, depression and suicidal ideation. Many find that counselling allows them to reconnect with family, re-enter the workplace and have more confidence in their abilities. A survivor who recently finished their counselling with us told us, “Lifecentre has helped turn my life around. Yery appreciative of all the help and support!” –Client

Together we are transforming lives.

With thanks and very best wishes,

Mollie-Ann Nisbet

GENERAL INFORMATION

CONGRATULATIONS

Anita is very pleased to announce the arrival of 9 golden retriever puppies to her dog Misty Blue on Sunday, 25th June. Mum and pups are all doing well. I went to see them last Friday and I can report that they are all absolutely gorgeous and it comes as no surprise that they have all already been sold! Cuddles can be arranged….

THE MOONLIGHT WALK

Jackie has done a sterling job of collecting all the contributions made towards the St Wilfrid’s Moonlight Walk. The final total raised was £1558.75 and we have added £41.25 from our funds to make it a round figure of £1,600. I’m sure you’ll all agree that this is a magnificent amount of money raised. Again, huge congratulations goes to all the ARWI Moonlight Walk Team members.

ARWI SUMMER PARTY, THURSDAY, 20TH JULY, 19.30 - SEASONS, BOGNOR REGIS FOOTBALL CLUB

I’d like to invite you all to our Summer Party, which this year will have the theme of “A Night at the Races”.

Feel free to dress up as if it were Ladies Day at Ascot and don your best hat or fascinator, in preparation for an evening full of fun, food & drink. There will be a prize for the best hat! Don’t worry, no money will be exchanged, and no actual betting will take place. We just want you to enjoy each other’s company whilst watching some horse races and predicting the outcome of each race.

Please note, there will be no sale table, collecting of milk bottle tops, raffle or health talk at this meeting.

All food, tea and coffee will be provided, along with a glass of Pimm’s or a soft drink. Alcoholic drinks may be purchased from the bar, as usual.

Please ensure that you let your Hub Leader know if you are unable to attend (for catering purposes). As it stands, we are catering for 63 ladies at a cost per person.

I do hope that as many of you as possible will attend the party.

JOLLY TROLLYBUS OUTING

We’ve been talking about organizing a local bus trip to Brighton for a long time and at our last Committee meeting we finally decided to go for it. So, if you fancy dusting off your free bus pass or forking out £2 per journey, come and join us on a bus trip to Brighton on Wednesday, 6th September. You’ll be able to visit ‘Van Gogh Alive’ at the Brighton Dome, or simply spend some time shopping in the Lanes or have a sneaky cocktail on the beach. Either way, it promises to be a memorable day out. A sign-up sheet will be available at the next meeting, with details to follow.

SIGN-UP SHEETS

There will be sign-up sheets for the following activities at the meeting on 20th July:

· Dining Divas, Tuesday, July 25th. Anokha Indian Restaurant. £19 including service.

· A guided tour behind the scenes at Chichester Festival Theatre (friends and partners welcome). Friday, 11th August. £10 per person

· A local Bus Trip to Brighton and ‘Van Gogh Alive’.

· A trip to Ardlngly Autumn Show, to be arranged either through Woods Coaches or by car. Price to be confirmed. Saturday, 23rd September.

GET WELL SOON

Unfortunately, the walking group has had their latest walk postponed because poor Barbara has had a nasty fall and broken her patella which requires surgery……Ouch! I’m sure that you’ll all join me in wishing Barbara a very speedy recovery.

FUNNIES

FINALLY

Although we won’t be having a meeting in August, many of the sub-groups will still be running and information will be disseminated via our closed Facebook group and e-mails. If ever you fancy inviting others to an activity, don’t hesitate to advertise on our Facebook page. There are many events in the local area over the summer holiday, so please don’t miss out for fear of not having a companion. In case you don’t receive a copy of Sussex News, here’s a snapshot of what’s on in the local area –

Have a good week everyone,

Aileen x

Payments for all ARWI events from now on will go through Jackie and the ARWI bank account “Aldwick Revival WI, Sort Code: 60-03-08, Acc. No. 74259172.” Please make a note of this for future reference
