Hello Ladies,
As our ‘Summer’ comes to an end, I hope that you’ve managed some quality time with friends and family and have soaked up what few sunrays there have been. I don’t know whether there will be an Indian Summer, but we should savour any rays of sunshine we do get and be grateful that our constantly changeable weather at least provides us with plenty to talk about!
I enjoyed a magnificent experience at the Oshkosh Air Show in the USA at the beginning of August. Apart from the spectacular 5-day air show, what struck me in particular, was just how friendly and positive the Americans were. No alcohol or smoking was allowed on the showground and 5000 volunteers ensured that the public had a wonderful time every day, both on and off the showground.
As we stood in line waiting for a shuttle bus back to the campsite for over an hour following one of the evening Air Shows, a man behind us said, “….well I’ve just watched the most wonderful show, it’s not raining and I’m not being eaten alive by mosquitoes. I’m chatting to interesting people….so what that I have to wait a little for the bus.” Perhaps we British could learn something from the warm, friendly hospitality offered by the Americans.
Of course, on my return from the States I was absolutely glued to the Olympics! I love every aspect of the Olympics and had a tv on in two rooms plus on my lap-top outside, so as not to miss a minute. True inspiration and fortitude shown by so many dedicated athletes. However, I always think it’s such a shame when athletes are “devastated” when they “only” come second.
THANKS TO:

…and huge thanks to Gina P, Kate H and Amanda P for all their hard work setting up and ‘manning’ the ARWI stall at the Puppy Love fete last Sunday. More than £80 was raised on the day for our WI, making a total of £112.60 when additional sales are included. Thanks also to those of you who came to support and to those who provided produce of any kind for sale.
THANKS FROM:
“Hello Sharon and Hilary,
Your support and kind donations have enabled the provision of our services and resources, making a big difference to families living with dementia. We are delighted to share with you the most recent impact of your support.
A short summary of our local impact in the last 12 months:
2,838 Customers supported by our Wayfinding Service.
3,406 Day Break sessions with respite days for carers.
678 Fun and social activity sessions.
825 therapy appointments in our dementia-friendly salons.
Sage House is all about the people, and for just over 6 years we are immensely proud to have been supporting families living with dementia. We could not do this without the support of our community. Thank you.
One customer reflected: “I have learned so much and been supported so much. Every member of staff I encounter is wonderful, compassionate and full of knowledge.”
The need for our services continues to increase. 1 in 2 of us will be affected by dementia at some time and there are currently over 17,500 people in West Sussex and 944,000 people in the UK living with dementia. To create, deliver, and grow our services, we rely on the generosity of people like you for nearly 80% of our annual income, meaning we have to fundraise £1.2million each year.
Please do get in touch if you would like to know more about Sage House and Dementia Support, or any of the subjects covered in our video.
With our kindest wishes,
Lisa

MONTHLY MEETING, Thursday, 19th September
We have a very special talk from Chichester Magistrates this month. For those of you who saw them last time, you’ll know how entertaining their talk is. I’d ask you to be in your seats with your drinks from the bar promptly by 19.30, as the talk will be in two parts and last for most of the meeting. Because of this we will not have a Sale table or Table Competition this month. The raffle will be drawn during the coffee break.
DINING DIVAS
The next Dining Divas will be on Wednesday, 25th September for a Carvery at The Anchor, Sidlesham at 18.30. The cost is £22pp for a starter or dessert plus Carvery, including tea or coffee. (Service extra).
A sign-up sheet will be available at the next meeting for your pre-orders. Please let Jackie have your payment via BACs or in cash at the meeting.

FUNNIES
FINALLY
I’ll not be at the meeting on 19th September as I’m away for my annual holiday with ‘the Girls’. This year it’s Kefalonia. However, I leave you in the very capable hands of the ladies of Committee and Carol. (Please let your Hub Leader know if you are unable to attend). I know that you’re all in for a treat with the talk from the Magistrates! Enjoy!
