Hats Off, Kennel Cough, and Christmas Scoff

aldwickrevival

Hello Ladies,

My goodness, these two weeks come around so quickly. It seems like only yesterday that I was writing the last update and here we are again. I hope that everyone is keeping well and enjoying this lovely autumn weather. I heard yesterday that it’s been a bumper year for pumpkins so I expect that there will be glut on the market. Ken and I had hoped to be going to Kefalonia tomorrow but sadly, CoCo has contracted Kennel Cough which is extremely contagious. Consequently, no-one is able to look after her for us whilst we’re away, so we’ve had to cancel the holiday. I’m a great believer in fate and “all things happen for a reason”, so we’ll see.

THANK YOU

· To the Committee for another productive meeting last Thursday.

· To Amanda and her friend Kate and to Carol who are in the throes of organising a ‘Pre-Loved and Pretty’ event next March. (Note the change of date to Saturday, 9th March). You will have the opportunity to sell your pre-loved clothes, shoes and accessories (no jumble) and raise funds for yourself, ARWI, St Wilfrid’s Hospice and Crimsham Farm. More details will follow as arrangements are confirmed.

UPCOMING BIRTHDAYS

Happy Birthday to Julie, whose birthday is on 26th October.

I hope you have a very special day.

GENERAL INFORMATION

October meeting.

As you know, our speaker on 19th October is Andy Thomas. This is an evening not to be missed! This talk is on ‘Lewis: The Bonfire Capital of the World’. It’s very apt for the time of year and we will be opening the meeting to friends and family for a £1 donation by way of fundraising for the WI. Please make a note in your diaries and invite your friends and family along. Your Hub Leader will be contacting you shortly to ask whether you are bringing a visitor so that we can cater accordingly.

As usual, we will be running a sale table at the meeting. Please try to support this as it helps to raise funds for the ARWI.

A reminder that a donation of £1 is welcomed for the refreshments provided by each Hub at our monthly meetings. This money is always donated to a local charity and this month our charity will be the Snowdrop Trust which supports children with life-limiting illnesses. If you have a particular charity that you’d like to nominate for future events, please let your Hub Leader know.

Sadly, I’ve had to cancel the Hat Making workshop with Bella as only two ladies were interested. These two ladies will have the opportunity to join one of Bella’s workshops in future. This is particularly disappointing since originally, 12 ladies expressed an interest, which prompted me to go ahead and organise a date with Bella. I hope that you can read between the lines here ladies!

November Meeting

At the November meeting, we will be having a wreath-making demonstration followed by the opportunity for us to make our own wreaths. The Committee decided to pay for all the materials for your wreath and for this to be your Christmas present this year. In this way we hope that you will benefit from enjoying your wreath for the whole of December and beyond. Of course, if you have any bits ‘n bobs that you’d like to add to your wreath, start collecting now and bring them along to the meeting.

I know that it’s still a bit early to be mentioning the “C” word, but we will be collecting wrapped Christmas presents in support of My Sister’s House at the November meeting. I will remind you in the next update but if you could possibly start thinking about donating a present, that would be most kind.

Dining Divas Christmas Meal

Once again, our Christmas meal is at Restaurant 64, Chichester College on Wednesday, 13th December at 18.00.

I have booked for 36 people, and it is strictly on a “first come first served” basis. Your place will be confirmed when Jackie receives your payment - by 20th October

There are two menu options, one being a vegetarian and one being more traditional. Both options contain choices and the cost is £25 or with the addition of ‘Granite of Mulled Wine’, £28. Tips collected at the end.

As soon as Jackie has received your money, (BACS payments clearly marked “Christmas Meal”, I will make a note of your menu choices.

FUNNIES

FINALLY

We’ve noticed that members seem reluctant to sign up for events and sub-groups recently. Naturally, we can only offer the range of activities we do, if they are supported by enough members. If there is something new that you would like us to provide, please don’t hesitate to let your Hub Leader have your suggestions.

Have a good week everyone.

Aileen x

Payments for all ARWI events from now on will go through Jackie and the ARWI bank account “Aldwick Revival WI, Sort Code: 60-03-08, Acc. No. 74259172.” Please make a note of this for future reference
