Heatwave and Happy Child Poses

Updated: Aug 1, 2022

Hello Ladies,

Since I last did an update we’ve experienced a record-breaking heatwave, torrential rain, thunderstorms, forest fires, a mass resignation of government ministers, including Boris, wild European Bison have been released in woodland near Canterbury, a medieval shipwreck has been discovered off the Dorset coast, England’s Lionesses have qualified for the Euro 2022 semi-finals and the schools have finally broken up for the summer. Of course, other newsworthy events have happened around the world. If you are heading off on your holidays soon, I hope that you won’t get caught up in the huge queues of cars gathered at the Port of Dover or have your flight suddenly cancelled.

We live in a troubled world which is why it is even more important that as a WI, we continue to stick together, enjoy each other’s company and help one another whenever we can.

Thank You

· To every one of you who turned up to the Sports Club last Thursday in the stifling heat.

· To Natalia who guided us through a very relaxing Yoga session.

· To all those of you in Jackie’s Hub for providing the refreshments at the meeting and to all those of you who helped out in any way at the meeting.

· To Caroline for organising yesterday’s Cereal Killers.

· To Sharon for taking the blister packs to Superdrug. I think we had a record amount of donations this month so well-done ladies! Just a little plea though, could you please separate the blister packs from the bottle tops in future?

· To Carol for sharing her heart attack experience and to Sharon for the well-being follow up on the symptoms, signs and prevention of heart attacks

ARWI MINI CRUISE

For a couple of years, it’s been mooted at our various eating-out groups, ‘Wouldn’t it be good to go on a Mini Cruise?’ Having finally taken the plunge and made enquiries with a friend of a friend, Karen, who is a specialist Cruise travel agent, she came up with an exceptionally good deal for us. However, in my ignorance, I didn’t realise that unless you jump on an offer almost immediately, the price goes up! The agent has no control over this and unfortunately, the offer became untenable at this time.

So, between us, we’ve decided that Karen will hold a list of interested ARWI members, friends and family and as soon as she comes up with a viable offer any time in the next year, she’ll let me know. People on the list will be informed by her if I think the offer is viable. This will mean that I will be going on the mini-cruise and if you’d like join, please let Karen know asap. It’s probably best (but not prohibitive) if you have a cabin partner as single occupancy cabins will be more expensive. So far, I have 18 people on the ‘expression of interest’ list. Please don’t hesitate to let me know if you haven’t yet signed up but are interested. Friends and family are welcome!

FURRY FRIEND SITTERS

it has become apparent that a number of us who have dogs and cats are finding it increasingly difficult to get someone to look after them for any length of time, be it for a holiday or just a few hours. If anyone would be interested or knows of anyone who might be interested in looking after one of our pets, even if it’s just for a short time, or just to look in on them, please let me know. Thank you to Sarah S., Carol, Sharon and Gill who have already signed up.
