Help the Kelp!

Hello Ladies,

Can it be two whole weeks since I wrote my last Update from the balcony of our hotel apartment in Lanzarote? It seems like only yesterday that I was soaking up the sun - and then we came back to Blighty, straight into rain, rain and more rain. After two further days of being cold and miserable, we booked two more holidays to give us something to look forward to. We must try to find something positive in every day, especially when the skies are grey and overcast. The days are now getting longer; the snowdrops and daffodils are blooming which always reminds us that better days are just around the corner.

THANK YOU

  • To Sussex Underwater for a most fascinating and informative talk at our meeting last Thursday. I’m sure that we all learnt something new about our local beaches and sea. For anyone who missed the talk, this link will give you a great insight: https://www.bigwavetv.com/pro.../our-sea-forest-sussex-kelp/

  • To Sharon for sourcing Sussex Underwater at short notice and for posting all the lovely photos on our Facebook page.

  • To all of you who took part in the ‘Show the Love for the Environment’ competition. All your entries were amazing! Congratulations to Sarah S, who’s entry was chosen by the Sussex Underwater crew as the winner. Sarah did a beach tidy and picked up anything that was green to add to her heart. It was topical and environmentally aware.

  • To my Hub ladies who managed refreshments at the meeting and provided a lovely array of cakes.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY

To Karen whose birthday is on the 19th February. Wishing you a very special day.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Jackie continues to maintain a healthy budget for us, and we have approximately £3000.00 in the bank. Our budget pays for our Summer Party, our Christmas Party, Annual Meeting expenses and miscellaneous, ongoing, administration costs.

This month, the raffle, the Sale Table and voluntary contributions made a total of £123.75. After all expenses were taken into account (hire of hall, speaker expenses and raffle prizes totaling £142.60), we had a deficit of £18.85. However, this will be mitigated in future months by voluntary contributions of £1 on entry, profits made from the Sale Table and fundraising activities (Dance Aerobics, a Cocktail Evening and a Garden Party in the summer).

April will start a new financial year and your annual subscription of just £45.00 (of which we keep about half after contributions are made to our Federation and to NFWI) will again, boost our coffers.

I will be reminding you to please pay your subscriptions by 1st April via BACs, cheque or cash to Jackie.

THE WI LEARNING HUB

If you have not yet ventured into the world of the WI Learning Hub, I highly recommend that you take a look (learninghub.thewi.org.uk). You need to subscribe: this is the online education portal which has replaced WI courses which used to be held at Denman House in Oxfordshire. You will have the opportunity to delve into a massive array of Live Course and Access Anytime Courses.

A majority of the courses are free which is a HUGE bonus for being a member of the WI. If you’ve ever enrolled on Adult Education courses, or courses held at West Dean, you’ll know just how expensive these can be, often running into hundreds of pounds!

On Tuesday, I’ve enrolled onto ‘Bullet Journalling with Felicity’, which I’ll be able to access anytime for the following 7 days.

FUNNIES

FINALLY

Three hearts were left on the table at the end of the meeting on Thursday which I now have at home. Unless I hear from the owners, I’ll assume that it’s ok for me to do my random act of kindness and I will leave them somewhere for someone in the in the community to find.

Have a good week everyone.

Aileen x

Payments for all ARWI events from now on will go through Jackie and the ARWI bank account “Aldwick

Revival WI, Sort Code: 60-03-08, Acc. No. 74259172.” Please make a note of this for future reference
