Matinees, Meetings and Mishaps

Hello Ladies,

I was so looking forward to going to the meeting last Thursday but as those of you who attended know, I was struck down with Covid on my return from a fabulous week in Turkey. As if this wasn’t enough, yesterday, I had a nasty fall in my garden and I’ve now got a badly sprained left wrist and a closed fracture to my right elbow….I don’t do things by halves! However, the good news is, that I’m now testing negative for Covid and my cough is much reduced. These things are sent to try us and as usual, Ken is being my rock.

THANK YOU

To the Committee for managing the meeting without me last Thursday. I can’t single anyone out because you are all fabulous!

To G and Clair for stepping up to the plate and each delivering a very interesting and informative talk. It’s such a shame that we had in excess of 25 ladies who were unable to attend the meeting (me included). Gina has said that if anyone would like to receive a word document of her talk on her working life at the Houses of Parliament, plea

se email her and she’ll send you a copy. (Well worth a read!)

To Jackie’s Hub ladies for providing the meeting with delicious refreshments.

To Amanda and her friend Kate who have agreed to help us organise a ‘Pre-Loved and Pretty’ event next February. More details will follow but please save the date to support this event, Saturday, 24th February. You will have the opportunity to sell your pre-loved clothes, shoes and accessories (no jumble) and raise funds for yourself, ARWI and a charity.

To Caroline for organising cereal killers yesterday

UPCOMING BIRTHDAYS

Happy Birthday to Jacquie, (9th October) and Irene, (11th October); Clare, (11th October)

I hope you each have a very special day.

GENERAL INFORMATION

WSFWI Annual Meeting

As you are probably aware the WSFWI AM will take place on the 19th October at the Capitol Theatre in Horsham. The Annual Meeting is the West Sussex Federation business meeting and each WI is required to send a delegate to vote on behalf of their members.

Delegates attend free of charge, and it is a great opportunity for members, both long standing and recent, to mix with other members, to meet the WSFWI trustees and teams, and enjoy good speakers.

In the past, I have attended twice and really enjoyed the day. The speakers were outstanding and it was good to mingle with ladies from other WIs.

Transport is available from Chichester/Durrington & Worthing to Horsham.

If any of you would like to attend this meeting please let me know asap and I will book a place for you.

Theatre Trips

G has kindly offered to arrange two theatre trips at Chichester Festival Theatre and has given a deadline of 10.00 pm this evening (Sunday). The two suggestions are:

Noises Off

Thurs 11 January, ‘24 matinee at £42.00

Fantastically Great Women Who Changed The World

Weds 14 February, ‘24 at 7.00 pm at £15

Please contact G directly if you are interested in either of these theatre trips. If 10 people sign up we can obtain a group rate. Non WI members are welcome.

Dance Aerobics

Unfortunately, Penny is unable to do Dance Aerobics for the next few weeks but it will resume on Monday, 9th October. Please contact Penny if you have any queries. Details on schedule below.

FUNNIES

FINALLY

Our Monthly Meeting on 19th October is an evening not to be missed as we welcome back Andy Thomas! This year’s talk is on ‘Lewis: The Bonfire Capital of the World’. It seems to be very apt for the time of year and we will be opening the meeting to friends and family for a £1 donation by way of fundraising for the WI. Please make a note in your diaries and invite your friends and family along.

I’m gadding off to a College Reunion in Northumberland from 2nd to 5th October so won’t be around for any sub-groups but nevertheless, I hope that some of you will enjoy meeting up.

Have a good week everyone and I’ll try my best not to have any more mishaps!

Aileen X
