Party time

Hello Ladies,

I think it’s fair to say that July has, so far, been a bit of a wash-out. We had a few of days of sunshine at the end of June which led to a false sense of optimism. However, my winter wardrobe is still in full swing and, although we’ve resisted so far, I know that some people have had their heating on in the evenings!

Some members of the Committee met at Carol’s for a barbeque the other evening and we all stoically sat outside wrapped in blankets! Let’s hope for better weather to come so that we can truly celebrate Summer.

THANKS TO:

  • Caroline for organising Cereal Killers yesterday.

  • Carol for hosting our last Committee meeting, the barbeque and the cocktail evening.

  • Janis, one of our newest members, for offering to organise trips to the cinema for us. Keep your eyes out for notices on Facebook.

  • Sharon for delivering our donation to the Aldingbourne Trust

THANKS FROM:

Good afternoon,

I hope you are well.

I just wanted to send you an email to thank you for your incredibly generous donation to the Aldingbourne Trust. We really appreciate your support. Donations are vital in helping us to continue the work we do and help us to support people in the local community.

Best wishes and thanks,

Emily Jazz

GENERAL INFORMATION

Monthly Walk reminder

Unfortunately, Barbara is unable to organize a walk in July but we are grateful to Jackie who has volunteered to organize and lead a walk instead, on Wednesday 17th July (weather permitting🤞).

It will be starting from Eartham Woods car park at 10am and will be approximately 5 miles. It will start with a walk through the woods with a gradual incline up towards Bignor Hill (gently undulating but not hilly!). There are lovely views and a refreshment stop at Gumber Bothy (bring flask & snack). We will then walk back along Stane Street (the old Roman road). Please contact Jackie if you intend to join in or would like more information,

SUMMER PARTY

On Thursday, 18th July the monthly meeting will be our annual Summer Party, with entertainment from Hannah Brackenbury. Over the last few years, she has been touring a one-woman show called ‘Victorious’ - a joyful & poignant musical tribute to the late, great British comedy icon Victoria Wood. You might like to dig out your best party frock, or feel free to emulate “Mrs Overall”, or simply come as you are. It’s your party so wear whatever makes you feel comfortable.

Buffet style party food will be provided and, as usual, tea and coffee will be available throughout the evening. Drinks are available for purchase from the bar (we are no longer able to provide drinks without paying corkage to Seasons). If you have any unfrozen cakes which you made for the Gala, they will be gratefully received. It should be a great evening!

There will not be a sale table or table competition this month but we will have our usual raffle.

Events throughout August

Although we don’t have a meeting in August, sub-groups still go ahead. There is a trip to Crosslands Nurseries which has already been organised. By way of something a bit different, I’ve organised a Dining Divas evening at Chez Moi in Aldwick Road on a Sunday evening in August, details to follow. Invariably, we organise an event at short notice so please keep your eyes peeled for details on our Facebook group. We will endeavour to email those ladies who are not on Facebook.

“The Drive through Time” Gala Washout

We were so disappointed to have to make the decision to cancel our stall at the Motor Drive Through Gala, especially when Gina, Kate and Amanda, plus all the cake and jam makers amongst you, had gone to so much effort. The Committee and Gina have instead decided to attend the Bognor Regis Puppet Party on Sunday, 29th September. Gina is already on the case and will give further detail at the Party on Thursday.

FUNNIES

FINALLY

I’ve tried to provide a comprehensive programme of ARWI events for the end of July and August below.

I’m going to give myself a little break from writing updates but will be back on form from the beginning of September. Our Jungle Drums network will still be operating via Facebook and the Hubs, and please don’t hesitate to either post

on Facebook or contact your Hub Leader if you have any ideas or see any local events which may be of interest.

Have a lovely Summer everyone!

Payments for all ARWI events from now on will go through Jackie and the ARWI bank account Aldwick
