Show the Love

Hello Ladies,

I’m very pleased to be able to start this update with some good news. At our committee meeting last week, we discussed the fact that the NFWI is putting up the annual fee to £46 in April. However, we unanimously decided that since everyone is currently feeling the pinch from the cost of living, we do not wish to increase the annual fee for our members. Therefore, I’m delighted to inform you that the annual fee due in April, will remain the same as the 2022 rate of £44.00, for all our members.

THANK YOU

· To Barbara for arranging the walk around Swanbourne Lake.

· To Jackie for hosting the ‘Knit n Natter’ group and for completing the end of year finances ready for auditing.

· To Penny for enrolling everyone for the Moonlight Walk.

· To everyone who turned up for the delicious food at the last Dining Divas.

· To Gina for organising theatre tickets.

· To the committee for a very productive meeting this week. We completed the business in under two hours - a record!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY

Since all these birthdays happen after the publication of this update, I’d like again to wish the following ladies who were born in February, a very Happy Birthday! Lee, 8th February; Lindsay, 9th February; Julie, 16th February; Karen, 19th February.

FEBRUARY MEETING – “SHOW THE LOVE” REMINDER

As mentioned at the last meeting, we will be ‘Showing the Love’ at February’s meeting. See below for details. We will have a little competition for the most appealing heart.

“…..As you may have read in WI Life magazine, February is ‘Show the Love’ campaign for Climate Awareness. In the past, we haven’t really engaged with this campaign, but we’d like to invite you all to make a small ‘green heart’ of some description – knit, crochet, sew or paint - and bring along to the February meeting to ‘show-n-tell’. From here, the idea is to leave your heart somewhere in the Community for someone to collect, with a label saying:

Aldwick Revival WI - Showing Love for the Climate. Please take me home”.

I have produced several labels for you to attach to your hearts, which can be collected at the February meeting, if needed.

This will not only help to promote climate change awareness but also raise the profile of ARWI. Please feel free to take a photo of your heart and post on our Facebook site.

Don’t forget to bring along to the next meeting your green bottle tops, blister packs and items for the sale table. I know that we’re in for a treat with a talk from a representative from Crimshaw Farm which is a local community farming project, spearheaded and run by Veterans of the Armed Forces for young adults with learning difficulties. Our collection from refreshments will be donated to Crimshaw Farm this month.

IMPORTANT CHANGE OF PROCESS….

We are indebted to Jackie our treasurer for managing all the payments for our various events but we need to assist her by simplifying this process. Therefore, from the February meeting, all sign-up sheets will be placed on a table in the foyer and Jackie will have a table next to this to receive your payments, either in cash or by BACs. Please ensure that your BACs payments state clearly what you are paying for in the ‘Reference’ section of the transaction. We hope that with better lighting in the foyer you’ll be able to read the sign-up sheets more easily and won’t forget to pay Jackie.

We have also decided that there should be a 30-minute arrival window at all future monthly meetings, from 19.15 – 19.45. Hopefully, this will give time for you to sign in, look at sign-up sheets, pay Jackie, buy raffle tickets, look at the sale table and buy a drink from the bar! We would appreciate your assistance by not arriving before 19.15, as the Committee needs time to set up the hall in preparation for the meeting. In future, speakers will be asked to start at 19.45.

THEATRE GROUP

Gina has received an e-mail from Dawn Gracie regarding the forthcoming Cabaret Club event on 25th February. If you haven’t yet paid Jackie for your ticket, please do so asap.

“ I'm SO looking forward to the SOLD OUT show on the 25th February and we have a cracking line up which also includes a few brand new performances from two of my burlesque students who are debuting!

I had a call last week from the venue to tell me that due to pitch flooding (it's a Rugby club y'know…) they have had to reschedule THREE matches to the 25th Feb and this makes life very difficult to share a venue with hundreds of other people when we are trying to set up/sound check and welcome you all

THE SHOW WILL GO ON!

So I've been forced to relocate the show for this night only, and have chosen the fabulous Assembly Rooms in North Street. Nothing else has changed aside from the location. As there's no pre-bar area, the doors will open at 7pm so pop into one of the neighbouring pubs/bars/eateries before heading over. The room is upstairs (lift access available) and we have a bar coming in to serve you all (it's NOT a BYO) “ Whilst booking some personal tickets with The Regis Centre, Gina took the opportunity of enquiring about seat availability for the next two shows that she thought might appeal to our members.

These are: Friday 17 March at 7.30 pm for “ABBA Forever” Sat 20 May at 2.30 pm for “Anything Goes” For both shows she was advised by the Box Office not to leave it until February and May respectively to book, so sign-up sheets for both shows will be available at the next meeting. Anyone wishing to make a definite booking for ABBA tickets, please contact Gina on geapage0720@gmail.com

Many thanks to Gina for organising this.

…and finally

I’m going to leave you all in the very capable hands of Carol and the committee at the next meeting. Ken and I will be going on holiday to Vietnam on Wednesday. This holiday was planned in 2019 for February 2020 and has subsequently been postponed twice due to the pandemic. So, it’s fingers crossed and third time lucky! I will be keeping an eye on our Facebook site and WhatsApp groups whilst I’m away, but I won’t be writing another update for a few weeks, so please make a note of the dates of events on our calendar page of this website.

Have a good February, everyone and I look forward to seeing some of your green “Show the Love” hearts on Facebook.

Aileen

N.B. in the interest of Covid security, I would ask all members to continue to take a lateral flow test before joining any WI activity. Payments for all ARWI events from now on will go through Jackie and the ARWI bank account “Aldwick Revival WI, Sort Code: 60-03-08, Acc. No. 74259172.” Please make a note of this for future reference
