Spring is in the air...

Hello Ladies,

Isn’t it lovely to arrive at Seasons for our monthly meeting in the daylight? Although the weather has been erratic this last week, I do feel that Spring is in the air and I just love seeing the magnolias in full bloom.

I was also delighted with the turnout at Thursday’s meeting. Despite receiving apologies from 11 members, we had over 40 members in attendance and no fewer than 8 visitors, 2 of whom have already joined. Please do feel free bring a friend along to any meeting, there is no charge for the first visit.

THANK YOU

  • To Ali and Janie, the Celebrants who gave us such an interesting talk at our meeting on Thursday.

  • To Sharon’s Hub ladies who provided such lovely refreshments for the meeting.

  • To Jackie, Val and Doreen for your dedication to running the raffle each month.

  • To Sarah H. for producing such an inviting vegetable hamper for the raffle this month.

  • To Maureen Waterhouse for collecting the raffle strips and passing them on for use by Great Ormand St Hospital.

  • To Penny, Jan, Amanda and Kate for running the Sale Table.

  • To Barbara for organising the walk through the bluebells in Slindon Woods.

  • To Lindsay for organising Afternoon Tea at Delicious yesterday.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY

The following ladies have their birthdays in April and the beginning of May:

Derry, 27th April; Angela, 27th April; Edna, 3rd May; Barbara, 6th May; Caroline, 14th May. Wishing you all a very special day on your birthday!

GENERAL INFORMATION

  • For those of you that were interested in the new sub-groups of TV/Film and Afternoon Book Club, we do need a minimum number to make these groups viable and sadly, we haven’t reached that number at this time. Please understand that this doesn’t mean the idea has gone away. We can always revisit the idea in the future. Apologies for any disappointment.

  • There are still plenty of sub-groups going ahead and a very good one for the summer months is the Prom Plod every Monday, early evening. All year long we have Knit and Natter and there are four different eating / coffee meet-ups throughout most months. There are also theatre and cinema trips, as and when something is looking good, as well as our 11 monthly meetings at Seasons. The Spring/Summer months are perfect for joining the regular walking group which visits a variety of locations in our area and generally ends up at a pub or café.

  • For the Quiz sub-group and any others who may be interested, Arun A Cappella are holding a quiz evening on Friday, 10th May at 7pm, Jubilee Hall, Chalcraft Lane, PO21 5TU. Tickets are £7 per person which includes tea/coffee but please bring nibbles, drinks and a glass. Tickets are available from Doreen L.

Thank you for your continued support for the Sale Table at our monthly meetings. Please keep bringing along items that you wish to sell or donate to our ARWI funds. Every little helps. I don’t want to keep bringing back unsold items each month so these items will be passed on. Please be sure to collect your items at the end of the meetings if you don’t wish them to be passed on. Books will go to a pop-up shop in Bosham and all other items will be passed to Mad About Dogs, who sell items for Hope Rescue (this is a leading dog welfare charity that saves lives of strays, abandoned and unwanted dogs as well as dogs seized from illegal breeders). Of course, if anyone would like to pass items on to a different charity at any time, please let me know.

It’s great to see that the NFWI has produced a new regular Podcast which may be accessed via these podcast platform links:

FUNNIES

FINALLY

I’m not quite in a position to publish a new ‘Hubs’ document but as soon as I am, I’ll attach it to my update. New members will be attached to a ‘Hub’ which is overseen by one of the committee members. The purpose of these Hubs is so that every member has a direct line of contact for any queries they may have and for administrative purposes. Each Hub takes a turn in providing refreshments at our monthly meetings so that every member has the opportunity to participate in the running of our WI and it’s not left to the same members each month.

Don’t forget that many short notice activities are advertised on our Facebook site, so if you are not already a member, please ask your Hub Leader to be added.

Have a good week everyone!
