Sun, Spirits and Special Events

Hello Ladies,

Well, Ken and I have escaped the miserable British weather and have come to Lanzarote for a bit of sun. Such is my dedication to the Wi that I’m writing this update from our balcony, overlooking one of the pools whilst basking in the sun. It’s a very pleasant 23 degrees with a light breeze, perfect! A hire care is included in our package, so we’ll go exploring later on.

THANK YOU

To the Committee and Jan for a very productive meeting last Thursday. We have some really good upcoming activities and events for the new year including a trip to Bognor Bingo Hall, trip to Crosslands Nurseries, a talk from Andy Thomas, Film & Theatre Nights, a Beach clean activity, an Afternoon Tea fundraising activity, a Cocktail evening, a daytime book club sub-group, a table games sub-group. All this is on top of our monthly programme of speakers, a Summer Party and Christmas Party.

We’ve received a very nice thank you letter from Sam Lyons at Cancerwise:

Good Afternoon,
Thank you so much for the incredibly kind donation to Cancerwise - received with great thanks.
We are very busy at the moment - we have received many counselling referrals already in 2024 and look set to be entering in to our busiest year ever. Your kind donation will help to ensure that we are available to those who need us
Thank you so much
Best
Sam Lyons

NB The charity that we will be supporting in February is the Selsey Lifeboats.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY

The following ladies all have their birthdays in February,

Lee, 8th February; Lindsay, 9th February; Julie, 16th February; Karen, 19th February. I hope that you all have a very special day.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Jackie continues to do a stirling job as treasurer and reported that at our last meeting we made £103.50 from the raffle, the sale table and from voluntary £1 contributions. Having taken off the cost of hire of the hall, we made a profit £43.50 for our funds. Every little really does help.

The National membership fee for next year (starting 1st April) is £48.00. However, the committee decided to subsidise our members and we are charging £45 for the year. As you know, the cost of pretty much everything has risen in the past year but we think that a £1 rise for our members represents extremely good value for money, especially when you consider all the activities mentioned above. We look forward to receiving your renewed membership subs by 1st April, BACs details are at the end of this update. If you have any queries regarding subs or are thinking of not renewing your membership, would you please let your Hub leader know?

I Want to Hear About Your Paranormal Encounters ...

Most of you will know that over the years I have written several books on different aspects of paranormal research.

I am now writing a new book which returns to this area – but this time stressing just how commonplace paranormal experiences of many kinds actually are. Far from being the rare and easy-to-dismiss occurrences some might have us believe, decades of conversing with audience members at my talks have shown me that a significant number of people have had extraordinary encounters that mundane causes cannot easily explain.

Although I cannot yet give too much away about the format of the book (due for publication in 2025), one of its central themes will be the relating of some of these personal experiences to clearly convey that the ‘paranormal’ is in fact far more normal than we think. The tales will be related without judgment and included as a challenge to mainstream sceptics who have been allowed to dominate for too long.

I would like to offer anyone on this emailing list with real tales to tell the chance for them to be included in the new book. All you need to do is email concise accounts of your experiences to me within the next few weeks. You can either just reply to this email or contact me directly at: info@vitalsignspublishing.co.uk

Obviously, many of you are in the UK and I am definitely interested in hearing everyone’s experiences but I am especially keen to include paranormal stories from around the world, particularly the USA, where many readers of the book will live.

Please keep your reports as clear and to the point as possible, thank you! Anecdotes can be included anonymously on request but I would prefer to name sources where possible. Your own words may be reproduced or your encounter simply referred to in precis. Named contributors will be fully referenced and thanked in the acknowledgments. Please note that anything you send will be treated with the utmost confidence and will not be shared any further beyond potential inclusion in the final text. Please state clearly in your emails that you are happy for what you send to be featured in the book, thank you.

As some examples of what I am interested in, subjects the book will cover include:

· Ghosts and poltergeists

· Psychic phenomena

· Out of body experiences

· Remote viewing

· Telepathy/Premonitions

· UFO sightings (UAPs)

· Alien encounters

· Sightings of strange creatures

· Energies or experiences in crop circles

· Energies or experiences at ancient sites

But any fascinating story, however seemingly bizarre, will be welcome. Now, it follows that these stories must of course be TRUE, as far as you can ascertain! Any that feel unreliable or come across as heavily embellished I am afraid will not be included. Please note that sharing your experiences with me is not a guarantee that they will be featured in the final book – some will and some won't – but I will still appreciate hearing them to help give the full picture.

If nothing else, this will make for a very interesting survey to see just how many people, within a focused demographic, have had extraordinary encounters and I may report back on this (without giving away any personal details) in due course if anything notable leaps out from it.

Thank you for considering being a part of this and I look forward to hearing from some of you soon.

Andy Thomas

DINING DIVAS

The next Dining Divas meal will be held at The Anchor, Sidlesham, on Wednesday, 28th February at 6.30pm. I have negotiated a two-course meal with the new Manager, comprising a Carvery main and either a starter or a sweet, with ordinary coffee/tea, for £25 including service. THERE ARE STILL PLACES AVAILABLE!

If you would like to join in this meal, please let me know asap and send Jackie £25 via BACs, cash or cheque.

FUNNIES

SHOW THE LOVE FOR THE CLIMATE

Don’t forget that we will be introducing our first table competition in February which happily coincides with the annual WI “Showing Love for The Climate” initiative. We’d like you to produce a small Green Heart using any medium of your choice. You still have a couple of weeks to produce this, so bring your green hearts along to the February meeting. Of course, entry into the competition is completely voluntary but it’s an ideal way to get your creative juices going – and there will be a prize for the best entry.

FINALLY

A polite request from the bar staff at Seasons, could you please remember to return any used glasses to the bar at the end of the evening so that the staff can clear up in time to leave at 10.00pm? Many thanks.

Have a good week everyone, Happy Valentine’s Day and I’ll look forward to seeing everyone on the 15th February.

Aileen x
